Ingredients

  • 5 medium tart apples
  • 1 9″ unbaked pie crust
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 Tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • juice and rind or 1/2 lemon, grated
  • TOPPING
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup pecans

Instructions

  1. Pare the apples and grate on the coarse side of a grater; place in the pie shell
  2. Mix the sugar, flour, nutmeg, and cinnamon in a saucepan; stir in the butter, orange juice, and the lemon juice and rind.
  3. Over medium heat stir until the sugar is dissolved. Cool slightly and pour over the apples in a pie shell.
  4. TOPPING:
  5. Preheat the oven to 400°.
  6. In a medium bowl, combine the sugar and flour. Cut in the butter, add the pecans, and mix until crumbly.
  7. Sprinkle over top of the apples. Bake for 5 minutes. Reduce the heat to 350° and bake for 30 minutes.
